CALITEA'S STORY.
The souvenir of Lady Calita is graved in the memory of our people for eternity. Soon after 1800, Podul Calicilor became Podul Calitei(Calita's Bridge). After Pappasoglu, Calita's Bridge inherited the name of an old rich lady, Calita, who built a small bridge over the river that crossed the street, obstructing people transit; this was an ordinary godsend in the epoch.
Ionescu Gion considered this change of name a "curious coquetry". Asking an old priest about "Calita" denomination, we found out she was "an old wealthy lady, that possessed many properties, houses, wastelands, gardens and grape-vine and from her name derived later Calita's Bridge.
Calita would mean today "The Good Lady"; her delegate shared money in Calicilor suburb and she sent foods and clothes at local repasts.
Here, around Antim Abbey, is the place where Calita gave gifts and godsends to poor people. Her name spread over Dambovita river, over Royal Courts, over Bucharest, contraining the story of an entire people.

THE STORY OF CARAGEA VODA
Episode 1
Caragea Voda had fallowed at rule, following the local customs. He entered the town on St. Spiridon celebration, slowly and sumptuous descending the Beilicului Bridge and in the sounds of the entire town steeples, he crossed himself to the Greatest Spiridon Church; then, followed by the first noblemen from the high-class, who were waiting the "cherofilima" -witch means the hand-kissing-, he leaded towards Curtea Veche Church, where he was anointed with the holly oil and, only then, he became a true sovereign, anointed of God.
Episode 2
The kindnesses of his reign had appeared with no delay: in the same night, at Court from Dealul Spirii, the fire broke out, lasting for many days; that's why, we know the place as the "Burned Court".
The second day, a great epidemy -known as "Caragea Voda's plague"-started and it lasted more than a year; a lot of houses became empty, the suburbs and boroughs were filled up with cemeteries. And it is known, the deads pay no taxes.

Episod 3
He ennobled whoever wanted and possessed a material support, coming true the arhondology codics (the book where all the noblemen of different ranks were listed), filling it up with pitars and serdars (counselors and mayors, our days).
But the most beautiful invention, that Europe discovered later and named "the Tax on Added Value" and never returned to charge-men of treasury, was brought into force by Caragea Voda as follows: from time to time he put the noblemen to cash in their chips, so that nobody to be indebted, and a tenth of the value was poured out into the reign account; it was no problem if they had not enough resources-the sovereign gave also postponements, with money, of course.
Episode 4
He ruled for two warrants -double that the Glorious Padisah swore- and left with trunks full of riches.
It can't be established if the trenchers or coins from that royal coffers were useful or not for us: with that money started Eteria's revolt, but this is another story.
We apologize, dear sirs, if we annoyed you with the history of baseness………whether noblemen or laymen.
A NIGHT WITH COPPOLA AT JARISTEA
What is he doing here?
Coppola set down to a table, exactly in the front of the stage, having a train of seven persons. In his right side stayed a teen-ager. A waiter eavesdrops and hears that the girl is his nephew. At least it is how he told her. Anyway, the girl is caressed by all the people around. In the left side of Coppola, an unknown man. We heard he is called Bob it seems he is the man that guide the stage manager in Romania. The rest, Romanians, and among them Tudor Chirila and her mother, Iarina Demian. We see on the table a spectacle program from Chirita of Barzoieni. Would have been the great stage manager incognito to the play?Yes, because he is heard laudably comment upon the setting staged by Iarina and played by Tudor. We find out the stage manager was also in the court-stage, making happy with his congratulations the Romanian actors.
The atmosphere warms fast enough. The finery starts to flow on Coppola's table, that doesn't seem to at all. He was discussing about the fact that the next day he's going to Piatra Neamt. What is he doing there? But, in fact, what is he doing here? Nobody can clear us up, less Tudor, that I friendly approach, but he cut me short: "Write what you see!". The messmates around become our acolytes.

We find out that Thursday evening Coppola was in a Bucharest club, "Music Club", but there the music was to loud, as he couldn't communicate and we also find out that all the managers of great movie houses from Bucharest wanted to see him but he refused them elegantly.
He wants to make something here. Or maybe a supply to Russia, where he was going to leave on Sunday?
A dance Francis Ford…
No, he stayed too much here, but nobody doesn't seem to have the courage to ask him. Otherwise, he is extremely cheerful, as tens of eyes have observed, and a lot of them even chosen, because in one of the corners was the former presidential councilor Octavian Stireanu and the admiral Ci-co Dumitrescu. On other table, the president of the Gymnastic Federation, Nicolae Vieru.
Further, big table: Andrei Duban, Alice Barb, George Ivascu, Gianina Corondan and their friends. All of them watch the "master", who is having fun. Two couples of dancers pass in the evening's program and, after playing their number, invite the people to dance. Duban dances with the blond ballet girl and Coppola with the dark hair one. Is valse.
Coppola dances very well and is having fun continuously. When he ends, he is applauded by everyone. The people knows him and appreciate him as he truly is, despite his discretion ( by the way, he pleased Laura , the amphitrion, to not pronounce his name on the microphone).Coppola's table is full with all sort of food. It was a sensational feast, comparable with that from Jaristea. Coppola ate the saumon roll, smocked salted sevruga, wild boar maws, deer and drunk all night a collection red wine, Cabernet of Simburesti.

The gasca wring the applause of the stage manager.
Laura, the master, brings Coppola the honor book, in witch he writes, very kindly. We steel for a second the book and see his decent message "Warm compliments for an excellent night!". The ring takes fire when sounds in boxes the rhythm of Menaito. Tudor Chirila dances, so Iarina Demian, but Coppola and his nephew just watch them. They won't be corrupted.
The gasca starts to function. It was an attraction point, because, on table, Tudor Chirila told the stage manager he brought here for the famous cymbalo player Ion Miu.The recital is stormy and the instrumentist -coincidence, it was his birthday- tears up applause to Coppola.
The American is really having fun and, seeing a nargileh in the scene, demands to smoke. The master immediately serves him. It is told him that it is an work of art from XIX century. On stage comes Doru Tufis, with an evergreen recital just good for Coppola's nostalgias. The stage manager dances with one of the ladies from the table, and than iven with Iarina Demian.
Coppola asked for an autograph from Voiculet.
The midnight approaches. Coppola is jovial. The children from restaurant come to ask for autographs and to make pictures with him. He doesn't mince at all. Heful. doesn't laugh, he isn't exuberant, he makes jokes that are relished by the entourage. But surprise, through Jaristea's door enter the Pan's pipe player Nicolae voiculet. He realizes that Coppola is inside and take his Pan's pipe fro the car. We find out he has worked before with Ion Miu. Voiculet and Miu play a Pan's pipe-cymballo duet, on Romanian traditional notes, that hardly may be described. Absolutely wonder. All restaurant is looking at in deep silence.

Coppola became suddenly very attentive. A lot of artists tried to show their talent in front of him, but what he's seeing now really likes him. He applauded with great pleasure. Another terrible coincidence: an evening before, Voiculet was invited at ... Godfather emission, where he sang to
Radu Moraru the musical theme from Coppola's Godfather.
After 24 hours, he is near Godfather's father. Voiculet offers him two CD with Romanian music, on witch Coppola asks for the Artist's autograph, and than tells him that his music gave him new ideas. Nicolae, has you make a hit? Is one o'clock in the night. The people doesn't leave home. Surprises go on at Jaristea, because Catalin Catoiu-Teava enters, the percussionist from VH-2, a common figure between the great international stars that come in Romania. Teava welcomes us, telling that there are only some hours left till he leaves in holyday to Los Angels, with Tudor Chirila.
And there they will see Coppola again. It is already 2 o'clock in the night and the American is fresh as a nightingale. He offers some cakes to Iarina Demian.
Allthough, the tiredness covers us and about 3 o'clock in the night, the band leaves. Coppola cordially kisses Jaristea's master and confesses that the great pleasure is that of leaving with wonderful remembrances from here. Chirila follows him. He left. Did the magic break? No, Coppola's joviality rest the gift he gave to us. Incognito.
