"The eternity of people would die if they wouldn't have in their soul the past things".
We will walk slowly in Bucharest, listening to the yesterday stories that the old walls and ….places are still whispering to those that are willing to listen. Nothing isn't more strange and in the same time more poetical that the birth of Bucharest city, on the riversides of Dambovita, that flows pure and frothy, and in which water has mirrored Curtea Veche, Curtea Arsa, Curtea Brancoveanului , Casele Dudestilor , Casele Golestilor , Casele Vacarestilor . . .
Today, is very difficult to find the words to talk about the 1900 Bucharest, that town where people were happy, the women were more beautiful, the dresses more wonderful , the jewels more shiny, the restaurants, the hotels, the cafes which were full of people, porringers with big spawns, with pheasant in their plumes , with lobsters on iced stones and champagne that flows like water in the river and Ludovic Viest turned with his magic bow.
The restaurants and hotels, Hugues (first in town), in the front of theater, Grand Hotel (Continental today), Otetelesanu Restaurant (today the Telephones Palace), the Rasca Garden (today Architecture, hotel and restaurant Boulevard) , Hotel de France near CEC, Athenee Palace Hotel and Restaurant (today Hilton)
We find out from the papers that in the ball-rooms always came the citizen, looking for fun each evening. The restaurant from the Belle Époque Restaurant had a respectful name; here came to theaters or concerts the height society to have.
Here took place the soirees, particularly described by Clay Moor, with tables full of flowers in this beautiful hall, where were stringing delicious foods, were all the high-educated and rich men, all the ladies of Bucharest, all the foreigner actresses, all writers, all life-loving painters ,all journalists and all bankers were present. All circles around Bucharest, this picturesque town with his numberless churches, his small lanes , his palaces with infinite gardens.
The songs, the dances, the food, the music were very appreciated , people dancing frenzied in every restaurant. The fiddlers and their rhythms were touching our souls, people were dancing and singing wildly, characterized by the warmth and the wise craze of the time.
The noble men were talking about horses, women and wines with a lot of admiration , they were living in a styled world, wearing gray pot-hats, monocle and pepper-and-salt breeches, having a flower on the buttonhole and speaking nothing but French. This is the world we are trying to revive here, in the always lively and deathless Locanta Jaristea.
